The TNS North Shropshire College team are through to the semi finals of the English Colleges FA Men’s Premier League play-offs after a 3-1 home win over Bishop Burton College from East Yorkshire in their quarter-final clash at a sunny and warm Park Hall Stadium, Oswestry on Wednesday afternoon.

TNS North Shropshire took the lead in the 12th minute when an attempted low ball from right to left by Bishop Burton centre half Ethan Gale was intercepted by Harry Bower who ran through the middle before having his right foot chip half saved by Bishop Burton keeper Nathan Popple, with the ball falling to Liam Parry who fired into the centre of the net from 4 yards.

Bishop Burton equalised a few seconds into the 33rd minute when Harvey Dixon’s throw in on the right found Chris Opie who took a touch before crossing to sub Jack Tanser who sent his header from about a yard while under challenge from TNS keeper Lewis Dutton into Dutton’s left hand corner to score just 74 seconds after coming on.

The longer the game wore on, the more likely it seemed that extra time or even penalties would be needed and the next goal would be crucial.

TNS North Shropshire went 2-1 up a few seconds into the 78th minute when sub Ismail Ozdemir ran down the left to the byline before seeing his low cross across the 6 yard box dummied by fellow sub Owen Jones to Parry, who sent his left foot back-heel from 6 yards into Popple’s left hand corner.

It was 3-1 in the 86th minute when Bishop Burton defender Liam White’s attempted cross-field from left to right outside his own box was intercepted by Ozdemir, whose first time low through ball found Parry and as Popple came out, Parry flicked it round him before slotting his right foot shot from 8 yards into the empty net to complete his hat-trick.

The final blast of referee Jack Noble’s whistle after 2 minutes 33 seconds of added time at the end brought the game to a close and confirmed TNS North Shropshire College’s place in the semi finals.
