With UEFA Champions League football now guaranteed – courtesy of not only winning the JD Welsh Premier League but also securing a UEFA Licence – in this feature we are bringing you some general information as well as key dates for your diary.
The New Saints FC goes into the first qualifying round, with teams as geographically diverse as Northern Ireland’s Linfield and Astana, the champions of Kazakhstan, among those that have already qualified.
The initial date to get excited about is June 18, when the draw for the first and second qualifying rounds take place. Then, it’s down to business on July 9/10 when the first leg games take place, with the ties decided a week later.
The second qualifying round games, should The New Saints progress in the competition, are scheduled for July 23/24 and July 30/31.
Let’s not get carried away but the final will be played on May 30, 2020, at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul.
In the event that The New Saints won’t be taking on Real Madrid or Juventus, then there’s always the UEFA Europa League to look forward to. Like last season, when defeat against the champions of Macedonia saw TNS drop into the secondary competition, that will happen this time as well.
