With the JD Welsh Premier League (JD WPL) 2019/2020 season kicking off in August, today the fixtures have been released. The New Saints FC’s campaign gets underway with a home tie against Caernarfon Town on opening day. The game, on August 16, sees ten out of the twelve top flight teams take to the field, as again Friday is well represented in the fixture list.
A week later – again on a Friday – the reigning JD WPL champions are on the road for the first time, with a visit to Maes Tegid. Ending last season in sixth place, and thirty points behind The New Saints, it will be another tough challenge, as Colin Caton’s Bala Town will be looking to get their campaign off to a good start.
The first game against a promoted side is on the last day of opening month, when we welcome Rhys Griffiths’ Pen-y-Bont to Park Hall. Formed in 2013, following a merger of Bridgend Town FC and Bryntirion Athletic FC, The Bont replaces AFC Llanelli Town, whose first season back in the JD WPL , sadly, was a short-lived one.
We have to wait until October 16 before we take on the other promoted team, as north Walians, Airbus UK Broughton, visit Park Hall, following a two-year spell in the second tier of Welsh football.
Finally, Phase One is wrapped up on January 17, as last season’s first and second-placed sides go head-to-head in Oswestry, with Connah’s Quay Nomads the visitors.
