A new initiative from The Venue is The Companies Cup. Contested by British Ironworks, BT Openreach, Dee Valley, K & M Dairy, RJAH Orthopaedic, Scottish Power, The Wilfred Owen and Venture Forestry – as well as our very own Academy staff and Venue staff – it’s been an encouraging inaugural tournament so far.
This week (Tuesday, June 25) saw the Academy and the Venue sides take on each other at Park Hall Stadium – where all games are being played.
The Academy team, featuring TNS FC legend, Chris Seargeant, took the lead in an open first half. The Venue were back on level terms though when an error at the back gave them a lifeline.
Shortly afterwards however, The Academy were once again in the lead and that’s how the scores were come the half-time whistle.
In the early stages of the second period, it was 2-2 before The Academy went ahead once more, courtesy of a well-executed free-kick from just outside the box. With goals predicted, we weren’t disappointed, as it was then 4-2 with a quality finish from the left.
Heading into the final quarter of an hour, the game looked well and truly beyond the reach of The Venue, as the Academy staff surged into a 5-2 lead. However, the never-say-die attitude paid off, as the deficit was then reduced to two goals as the game continued end-to-end.
With Academy nerves jangling, another goal saw the gap down to just one. However, a red card for the blues proved too much of a mountain to climb, and the final whistle saw the side featuring both Chris Seargeant and Connor Roberts edge the game 5-4.
