Gill Jones Brings Us The Latest TNS FC Foundation News

Here in the Foundation, our summer holiday programme is in full swing – with a comprehensive programme of holiday activities being offered for 4 to 16 year olds of all abilities.  This year, for the first time we have offered two new full day holiday clubs – one at The Flash, Welshpool – running from 9am to 5pm each week day of the summer holidays at a cost of only £20 per day.

The other club is a joint venture with the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital League of friends – who are subsidising the cost of a week’s holiday club at the end of August at The Venue, Park Hall for the children of hospital staff – again, the cost of this is just £20 per day.

In addition to the above, we are running our usual programme of free weekly holiday activities in the following locations, thanks to the support of a number of funding partners:

Mondays Gobowen

10am – 1pm (including free lunch)

Whittington

2pm – 3.30pm

Tuesdays Gatacre, Oswestry

10am – 1pm (including free lunch)

Wednesdays St Martins

Cae Glas Park, Oswestry. 10am – 1pm (including free tea)

Thursdays Weston Rhyn

Of course, TNS Girls and Ladies are also now back in training in readiness for the new season.  We wish the ladies a successful season, and are pleased that TNS Girls teams are growing in numbers – with the establishment now also of a TNS Ladies U18s Development Team, thanks to funding support from the FA Grow the Game Programme.

It is only 12 months since the girls and ladies section moved under the umbrella of the Foundation, having gone through a difficult period.  The first twelve months has been a learning period for everyone as the section adjusted to being part of the Foundation – we are looking forward now to a very positive year for girls and ladies participation.

With only two weeks of the summer holidays remaining, we are also well advanced in our wider Foundation plans for the autumn term.  Our newly appointed Community Football Co-Ordinator Tom Rowlands joined the team at the beginning of August, and is settling in to his role – working with Head of Coaching, Sarge – to implement a programme of community football development.

We welcome Tom to the Foundation team.  Mini Saints, Junior Saints and Wildcats will recommence on 2nd September 2019 – these will be led by Tom, who will be offering children an enjoyable programme of weekly fun football activities.  As part of this, we will also be participating in the McDonald’s free fun football taster sessions during early October – watch out in your local McDonald’s for details of these.  Watch out over the coming months for further news on our community football programmes.

Alongside all this, we are of course continuing with our programmes of exercise provision for older people, as well as our programme of youth engagement in Oswestry, Whittington, Gobowen and Weston Rhyn, and a comprehensive local schools offer – working with a number of partner local schools.   Look out for us also at Oswestry Community Games on Sunday 15th September.  We look forward to another busy year.
