This coming Sunday (August 18, 2019), we begin the defence of our JD Cymru Premier crown, as we welcome Caernarfon Town to Park Hall for MD1. With four games on Friday evening and one on Saturday afternoon, our fixture against the Canaries is the final one of the opening weekend, due to our European involvement.
It was great to see Caernarfon Town back in the top flight last season and their final placing of fourth gave them a stab at Europe themselves. Unfortunately though, for Sean Eardley and his troops, they didn’t quite make it, as Cardiff Metropolitan University FC grabbed the coveted play-off winner’s spot instead.
Although their defensive record was good, with just The New Saints, Connah’s Quay Nomads and the aforementioned Archers conceding less goals during the league season, it was at the other end where Caernarfon will look to improve this time round.
The lowest scorers from the Championship Conference (the top six, come the split), to find teams that were significantly inferior as far as firepower is concerned, you had to look at the two relegated teams, Lanelli Town AFC and Llandudno FC.
On the other hand, Scott Ruscoe’s side were firing on all cylinders, finding the net on 99 occasions in 32 games. Combined with conceding just 16, the plus goal difference of 83 was greater than all other teams in the black combined (59).
The game at Park Hall has a 2.30 p.m. kick-off time and you can find out more general details such as directions and admission prices HERE.
If you’re not at the game in person, then don’t miss out, as TNS Radio will be bringing commentary and chat. The link is here on the home page of our website, and as always, we look forward to your company.
