April 3, 2019 is certainly a date that Bala Town will not need reminding of. As the then JD Welsh Premier League entered the final straight, a disappointing evening for the Lakesiders saw the reigning champions register a convincing 7-0 victory.
The game was a key one for The New Saints, as the win put the side four points clear at the top, with four games to go. As we know, Scott Ruscoe’s team went on to make it eight consecutive top flight titles.
The deadlock was broken early, when Ryan Brobbel found the net from the edge of the penalty area in the ninth minute. It was just before the break though when the visitors added the second, after good work from Greg Draper ended with Danny Redmond firing home to give TNS a comfortable two goal lead at the break.
Second half goals from Dean Ebbe, and a brace each from Draper and Adrian Cieslewicz, rounded off a great evening for The New Saints.
Five different names on the score sheet ensured that the goals were again spread throughout the side, which was a common denominator in the big wins that the team put together in 2018/2019. Draper’s two though went a long way towards the New Zealand international securing back-to-back Golden Boot awards.
