The last time that the two sides encountered each other was on April 6, earlier this year, as the then JD Welsh Premier League 2018/2019 season was in the final straight. A convincing 6-0 victory for The New Saints at Latham Park put Scott Ruscoe’s side just one more win away from an eighth consecutive title.
With just seven minutes on the clock, Ryan Brobbel found Aeron Edwards on the left of the penalty area, and whether it was a cross or an intended shot, the fact is the deadlock was broken, as TNS took the lead.
The advantage was doubled five minutes before the break. Good work from Jamie Mullan saw Brobbel take a touch before firing past the Newtown keeper, Dave Jones.
Although the Robins started the second period well, it was the visitors who secured the points courtesy of a Kurtis Byrne goal and a hat-trick from Greg Draper.
The trio for Draper went a long way to eventually securing a second consecutive Golden Boot award as the leading goalscorer in top flight Welsh football.
