As We Welcome The Old Gold To Park Hall, We Remember The Last Time We Met

With Carmarthen Town the visitors for JD Cymru Premier MD14, we don’t have to go back too far for the last time that the sides met. On September 21 – less than two months ago – it was a happy team bus home from Richmond Park, as the reigning champions registered a 6-2 win.

However, it didn’t look quite as good after eleven minutes, as the home side raced into a 2-0 lead. Following Luke Bowen’s opener, an own goal from Jon Routledge put Carmarthen Town in the early driving seat.

Within five minutes though the deficit was reduced, as great work from Adrian Cieslewicz found Aeron Edwards, who headed home from close range.

Seven minutes before the break, it was all-square, as a blocked Chris Marriott effort fell kindly to Greg Draper. The New Zealand international made no mistake as he smashed the ball into the roof of the net from close range.

The second half saw a further goal for Draper, as well as another for Edwards and a Kurtis Byrne brace, which ensured a comfortable 6-2 win in the end for the visitors. The three points also saw the current champions of Wales move back to the top of the table, come the final whistle.

The game also witnessed JD Cymru Premier debuts for Josh Bailey and Ethan Short. Both youngsters were brought on later in the game, and although a big step-up from the U-19s, neither looked out of place on the pitch.
