Academy Players Of The Month – November

Last Tuesday, we celebrated our Academy Players of the Month for November at our JD Cymru Premier fixture against Carmarthen Town.

Each of the winners received a trophy, presented by first-team defender, CJ Craven, on the pitch at half-time.

Academy manager, Jason Brindley, explains the reasoning behind the choices below.

Under 7s – Zac Phillips

Since joining, Zac has really come out of his shell, showing his cheeky personality to everyone who has coached him. His energy and willingness to learn is brilliant, and the way he replies to every challenge with ‘easy’ shows a real cheeky confidence in himself, which is great to see at such a young age.

Zac’s skills have really improved this month too, and the way he has put them into game situations is great. Well done Zac!

Also present was Sam Sheard from last month.

Under 8s – Lucas Lane

Lucas has been tremendous, not only this month, but for the season so far. Many players could win this award, which is the great thing about this team.

Lucas performs at a high standard in games and training, and I’m happy to see his progression each week. Because of this, he has been rewarded by getting the chance to train with the U9s, which is very exciting for those who do.

Under 9s – Max Bright

Max has enjoyed a great month, working hard on his distribution when playing out from the back, and finding different solutions to problems faced.

Max’s energy is infectious, he’s always got a smile on his face and since joining the club, he’s taken in all new information and put it into practice.

Well done Maxi!

Under 10s – Louis McPartland

Well done to U10 player Louis. Louis shows a great attitude in both sessions and games. He has taken on coaching points and demonstrated them in games. He also has very good close ball and dribbling skills. Lou has an infectious personality and is always bubbly and full of energy. Well done Lou.

Under 11s – Thomas Broadhurst

Thomas is a very bubbly character, whose humour and personality brightens up every contact. He is an ever present at training and always gives 100%. Thomas is able to outplay his opponent in 1v1 scenarios, makes good decisions in possession, and works tirelessly for his team out of possession.

We are really pleased with Thomas’ progress so far this season, keep up the great work “Tominio”.

Under 12s – Luca Beck

Luca has enjoyed a great month of football, taking on board all new information and applying it to a very high standard. Luca has worked a lot on his hold-up and link-up play, as well as movements to get himself into goal scoring positions.

His energy and work rate has always been fantastic, as he presses from the front really well, however I feel now he also possesses the knowledge and quality to create further opportunities for himself and other players around him, which has really benefited the team.

It’s great to see him start to believe in his ability now too, as we are starting to see more and more of his quality.

Well done Luca!

Also present was Ronnie Lee from last month.

Under 13s – Callum Francis-Jones

Well done to U13 striker Callum Francis-Jones. Cal has had a really good month, with some excellent performances. Cal is both strong and powerful and works really hard for his team.

His performances have earned him a call up to train with the FAW Welsh Tier 2 squads. Cal is an ever present at training, has overcome a recent growth spurt, and is looking back to his best.

Under 14s – Louis Crofts

Congratulations to U14 forward player Louis Crofts. Crofty has adapted to playing in a variety of positions in recent weeks. He is very good at dribbling, close ball control and finishing.

Despite playing a lot of football, with both ourselves and school, Lou has a great commitment to training and work rate in both sessions and matches. I’m really delighted about the continued development of Louis. He’s a great kid and joy to coach.

Under 15s – Jay Barrow

Jay has been in fantastic form over the past few weeks and has consistently played a vital role in our team’s performances, in particular vs Swansea City and Walsall.

Jay has a good range of passing, makes good decisions in possession and is very hard to beat in 1v1 scenarios. We have also been particularly pleased with how Jay has demonstrated good leadership and communication skills both on and off the pitch.

We are delighted with his his progress. Keep up the great work Jay!

Under 16s – Rhys Edwards

Rhys has settled into our team really well since joining us earlier in the season. He is a very selfless, driven and hardworking character who always gives 100% to his team and own development.

Rhys holds the ball up well, makes intelligent runs off the ball, and gets into really good positions. We have also been pleased with how Rhys has developed his understanding of how to press from the front. He is a player we are all very excited about. Keep up the great work Rhys!

Under 19s – Will Nevitt

Will has been fantastic throughout the season and deserves to win the Player of the Month award. His work ethic is brilliant in training and games and he is a great character in the dressing room.

Will has scored a number of important goals this month, including a brilliant volley against Connah’s Quay.

Speaking after the awards, Jason said:

“Congratulations to all of our Players of the Month for November. It was a really positive month for all involved with TNS.

“Our U12/14/16s all qualified for the FAW Academy Cup Super6. We have altered our training plan, with our Foundation Phase Fridays now also incorporating Multi-Sports, working on motor skills and ABCs.

“It’s important that we are always reflecting on our delivery, and ensuring that players are constantly challenged. I’m delighted with how the season has gone thus far.

“As we enter December and reach the half-way point of the season, the continued development of the players and age groups is evident. All groups are playing really well and players have taken on board action points from recent IDP meetings”.
