After staying up all night watching – and blogging – the general election, I had a short lure fishing session on a local canal and then it was off to south Wales for the Barry Town United versus The New Saints FC game in the JD Cymru Premier.
Fortunately, I was on the team bus so I did manage a power nap on both the outward and return journeys. Life is short, and although you don’t want to burn yourself out, nevertheless it’s important to make the most of it and enjoy what time you have here on terra firma.
They’re all crucial games for The New Saints, as we push on in the second-half season, and this was no different. MD8 saw Barry Town United beat us at Park Hall and open up a four-point lead at the top. Following this victory though, on MD17, it’s The New Saints who now enjoy the same points advantage at the peak.
It was a frantic start to the game, with Aeron Edwards’ opener after four minutes cancelled out by a Kayne McClaggon equaliser in the eighth minute. Then, just three minutes on, a Ryan Brobbel penalty restored our lead.
That remained the score at the break, and although the home side went for it in the second period, goals from Dean Ebbe and Jamie Mullan secured a 4-1 victory. It was a happy team bus on the way home and although no-one associated with the club will be even remotely getting carried away, nevertheless it’s a good place to be in, position-wise, as we look ahead to a busy Christmas period.
The lead image was taken from the press box at Jenner Park, as TNS FC media settled in ahead of kick-off. It was a long day – I got home after 3.00 a.m. – but a blessed one.
