As We Welcome Aberystwyth Town To Park Hall, We Remember The Last Time We Met

It’s JD Welsh Cup action this Saturday (January 25) for The New Saints FC, as we host Aberystwyth Town in the fourth round tie at Park Hall.

Having already played each other twice this season in the JD Cymru Premier, the first encounter, on a scorching August day at Park Avenue, saw Scott Ruscoe’s side register a 10-1 victory.

The return fixture – in the middle of November, so considerably cooler – was a much tighter affair, as on that occasion, come the final whistle it was just two goals that separated the sides.

The New Saints got off to a great start when, with three minutes on the clock, a ball played into the Seasiders’ penalty area dropped nicely to Keston Davies, who slotted into the net from close range.

Although the home side dominated, there was just one more goal to come in the first period. With five minutes to go before the break, on the end of an Aeron Edwards pass, Ryan Brobbel rounded the ‘keeper and played the ball into an empty net.

No more goals followed, but whether it’s 10-1 on the road or 2-0 at home, it’s still the same three points. The win was vital, as The New Saints continued to keep the pressure on the leaders at that time, Connah’s Quay Nomads. Since then, the roles have been reversed and it’s the reigning champions who have a four-point cushion at the top.
