The New Saints FC 2 Falkirk FC 0 – A Trip Down Memory Lane

As part of the pre-season schedule ahead of the 2018/2019 campaign, on June 29, 2018, we welcomed Falkirk FC to Park Hall for a friendly.

The starting line-up included new signings Ben Cabango – on loan from Swansea City – and Danny Redmond, who had just put pen-to-paper with The New Saints, following a spell north of the English border with Hamilton Academical.

The eleven who began the game were: Paul Harrison, Simon Spender, Chris Marriott, Ben Cabango, Jon Routledge, Ryan Brobbel, Greg Draper, Blaine Hudson, Jamie Mullan, Tom Holland and Danny Redmond.

The bench consisted of: Chris Seargeant, Dean Ebbe, Ben Clark, Adrian Cieslewicz, Aeron Edwards, Kane Lewis, Connor Roberts, Josh Hmami, Joash Nembhard and Kurtis Byrne.

The New Saints controlled the game, and even with the nine second-half changes, there was no lack of fluidity. As the fixture was available to the public, and not played behind closed doors, it wasn’t subject to the FAW rules that forbid the score publication of the latter.

Although both Ryan Brobbel and Jon Routledge had chances during the first period, it was the former who broke the deadlock with just three minutes to go before the break. A cross from the right found the Northern Ireland U-21 international at the back post, as he slotted the ball home.

Just into the final third of the game, Adrian Cieslewicz wrapped up the win for The New Saints. A great cross from Routledge found Brobbel, who in turn fed the Polish winger who took advantage of the hard work, as he put the ball into an empty net.
