Although a 1-0 defeat for Bala Town against Connah’s Quay Nomads two days earlier meant that the league title was already secured, The New Saints still put in the performance of champions, as they clinched an impressive 5-1 victory against Cefn Druids to lift the then, JD Welsh Premier League, trophy in style.
Victory in the 2017/2018 season meant that it was now seven successive league titles for the Park Hall side, with Scott Ruscoe winning his first league trophy as the club’s new manager, having been appointed in the previous summer.
That wasn’t the only personal milestone of the day however, as Greg Draper scored four times in the match, grabbing his 100th league goal for The Saints in the process. Fast-forward to present day and the New Zealand international now sits on 151, needing just three more to eclipse Mike Wilde and become the club’s all time leading league goalscorer.
The victory against the Ancients also saw the rare sight of a Tom Holland goal. The long-range strike in the 41st minute was his first for TNS after signing from Swansea City in June 2017 and to this day, it remains the midfielder’s only goal for the club.
The starting line-up for The New Saints was as follows: Harrison, Pryce, Saunders, Hudson, Marriott, Routledge, Holland, Mullan, Edwards, Brobbel, Draper. Substitutes: Wycherley, Rawlinson, Ebbe, Clark, Kauber.
