Although no date has been set for the start of the upcoming JD Cymru Premier season, nevertheless manager, Scott Ruscoe, has been busy behind the scenes, as he looks to strengthen the squad.
The first player to put pen-to-paper with The New Saints is Louis Robles. The twenty-three year-old spent eight years as a youngster with Liverpool FC’s Academy. Signing for Wigan Athletic at the age of sixteen, two years later he signed his first professional contract with the club.
After making just one appearance for The Latics, Robles turned out for a number of sides in England, Spain, United States of America and Wales.
The initial spell in Wales was at Bangor City, where he played one game, scored two goals and the following morning was on a flight to Spain to sign for Majorca-based CD Atlético Baleares.
His return to Welsh football resulted in a longer stay, as Bala Town came calling for the 2019/2020 campaign. The Maes Tegid spotlight, of course, was on Chris Venables, who took the JD Cymru Premier’s Golden Boot come the end of the season, with twenty-two goals (plus one one cup strike).
However, with eleven in the league and five in cup games, Louis Robles finished with a very creditable sixteen goals in total.
It was not just his eye for goal that caught the attention of Scott Ruscoe but also his all-round play and contribution. Speaking to Scott, the former TNS player-turned manager had the following to say:
“Louis Robles has signed for the football club, which shows our intent and ambition to strengthen. He is a player I’ve tracked for a while and he had an excellent first season with Bala Town.
What impresses me most is his hunger and drive to become the best he can be, and he’s had a really good grounding, playing for the likes of Liverpool and Wigan Athletic as a youngster.”
There will be a full and in-depth interview with our new signing, once the players are back in training. For now though, the forward, who will be wearing the number eighteen shirt, expressed his delight at signing:
“I’m very happy to join The New Saints. After speaking with Scott (Ruscoe) on several occasions, I knew that it was the right move for me, and I want to thank him for the confidence shown in me.
I’m really looking forward to getting started.”
