August has been a fantastic month for The New Saints FC Academy, with some great fixtures and learning opportunities, writes Jason Brindley.
On Saturday, we celebrated our Players of the Month at our home fixture against Pen-y-bont. Below is a round-up on each player.
Under 7 – Elliot Roberts
Elliott’s impressed throughout the month through training and games. I have been impressed by his attendance and his willingness to try hard in every session to perform the skills taught by the coaches and try them in game based practices. Well done Elliott!
Under 8 – Thomas Hick
Goalkeepers don’t often get the recognition they deserve but Thomas deserves Player of the Month for his performances during recent matches, his attitude during training and also his commitment to attending training and matches so far this season.
Under 9 – Lewis Jones
The Under 9s Player of the Month for August has been awarded to Lewis Jones. An exciting attacker, Lewis has taken onboard recent information regarding taking a good first touch and reacting on transition which has improved his game massively.
His ability to draw players in and then burn them with his electric pace, as well as his wicked strike and accurate delivery, has been a real asset to the team. Lewis is a pleasure to work with and his cheeky personality and energy is infectious. Well done Lew, keep up the great work!
Under 10 – Zac Evans
Zac Evans is new to the group this season and has settled in well. He’s put the skills he’s learnt into practice in both training and matches, has great feet and is dominant in 1v1s, assisting teammates to score, and has scored some excellent goals himself in the process. His performances have resulted in training and playing with the under 11s. Keep up the hard work and take in all points given, well done Zac.
Under 11 – Finley Dixon
I’ve been really impressed with Fin’s performances and attitude since becoming our under 11s Coach.
Fin is a very bubbly and infectious character, whose humour and personality brighten up every training session and game.
Fin is confident and creative in 1v1s, has a good passing range and makes good decisions on the ball. In addition to this, Fin has recently added more goals and assists to his overall game.
Fin appears to be playing with loads of confidence right now and it’s great to see, keep up the great work!
Under 12 – Jayden Valentine
Where do we start… Jay has been fantastic so far and has gone onto another planet in the last few months.
An exciting attacking midfielder, he is a player who can always find space and causes panic for the opposition with his game intelligence, clever touches and incredible weight of pass. His ability to secure the ball and spin his man under intense pressure is something I really admire.
He has a really cheeky personality that brightens up all of the coaches’ and fellow players’ days. His ability has been recognised by many coaches, so much so he’s also been a part of our U13 and U14 teams in training and friendlies. Yes JJ!
Under 13 – Alfie Harrison
Congratulations to U13 player Alfie Harrison. Alfie has come back from our short break with an air of confidence, often answering questions well and demonstrating in games and practices his understanding of the learning topic. Alfie also played a big part in the U13s recent trip to France, scoring some fantastic goals, but also linking up the play really well. Well done Alf.
Under 13s – Isaac Godwin (collecting his award from July)
Isaac has had a fantastic pre-season with some standout performances for our Under 13s, most notably leading the line against Stoke City and scoring some fantastic goals in the process.
Isaac has a fantastic attitude, always listening, asking and answering questions and it’s clear to see he is learning in the process. I’m looking forward to working closer with Isaac and developing his TTMP review.
Under 14 – Josh Smith
Well done to under 14s player Josh Smith, who has thoroughly deserved Player of the Month for August. Josh is a new player, having joined after recent pre-season trials, and has impressed coaches with his attitude and work ethic.
Josh has shown a good attendance, being an ever present, and has improved already in his short time with the club. Keep up the good work Josh.
Under 15 – Ellis Bateman
Ellis Bateman has had a good month and always shows a great attitude in training and matches. He works tirelessly for his team and also does extra work in the gym, often the first one at training. I’m really impressed with his dedication to developing and giving it his all. Keep it up Ellis.
Under 16 – Jake Canavan
Jake has been a breath of fresh air since joining us from Burnley at the end of last season.
Jake is a skilful midfielder, with excellent ability to play under pressure. He has a good passing range and the ability to dominate 1v1s.
In addition to this, Jake is an incredibly hard working individual who always gives 100% in every training session and match. I believe Jake has huge potential and we are looking forward to seeing how he develops over the next few months. Keep up the great work Jake!
Under 19 – Spencer Parrish
Spencer has show a great attitude since rejoining the club, putting in some outstanding performances during pre-season and has been a pleasure to coach.
