Match report by Sam Wood

The New Saints equaled the record for biggest ever JD Cymru Premier win with a sensational 12-0 victory against Airbus UK Broughton.

It was a day in which everything went right for Scott Ruscoe’s side, with six different players getting themselves on the scoresheet, plus the added bonus of their two main title rivals both dropping points.

First-half

Scott Ruscoe’s side came out of the traps quickly and found themselves a goal ahead with just six minutes played.

Although David Roberts did well to get a hand an Adrian Cieslewicz effort, the Airbus ‘keeper couldn’t stop The Saints’ number 11 from giving his side an early lead, as he finished well into the far corner from inside the penalty area. 1-0.

And just 11 minutes later TNS were celebrating again. It was Blaine Hudson on target this time, as the number 12 had stayed forward following a corner, and he made no mistake with a well taken finish, after being slipped in behind the defence. 2-0.

The Saints were enjoying themselves and added a third goal in the 26th minute through Ryan Brobbel. After beating a few players in the box, the number eight left Roberts with no chance, as his effort was well placed into the far corner of the net. 3-0.

Airbus’ afternoon quickly get worse, as a high challenge on Danny Redmond by Jake Phillips was deemed to be dangerous by the referee, who wasted no time in dismissing the hosts’ number 12.

And from there on in, it was all one way traffic. Cieslewicz grabbed his second of the game in the 39th minute, with a good finish from the edge of the box, before Aeron Edwards sent a composed effort past the goalkeeper right on the stroke of half-time. 5-0.

Second-half

Ruscoe made two changes at the break, which saw Greg Draper and Kurtis Byrne both come on in place of Dean Ebbe and Keston Davies.

And Draper wasted no time in getting in on the act, as he made the score 6-0 with virtually his first touch in minute 46.

The goals continued to fly in for TNS and Aeron Edwards grabbed a second in the 54th minute, in what was his final act before making way for Billy Whitehouse. 7-0.

Draper bagged his second just two minutes later, before Cieslewicz completed his hat-trick just after the hour mark, as he curled an effort into the far corner, past a helpless Roberts in goal. 9-0.

The JD Cymru Premier champions were in no way finished there though, and New Zealand international, Draper, made it two hat-tricks on the day for his side, when he scored his third goal in the 69th minute. 10-0.

Not to be outdone though, Ciesleiwcz was on the score sheet yet again in the 71st minute, as the Polish winger made it four on the day for him. 11-0.

And there was still time for another substitute, Kurtis Byrne, to add to his tally for the season, as the Irish striker made it 12-0 with just 11 minutes to play, to ensure his side went into the record books with the biggest ever top flight away win in Welsh football.

It was The Saints biggest win of the season, and leaves them in a great position to move back to the top of the JD Cymru Premier, something which they’d do with a victory in their game in hand against Carmarthen Town on Tuesday.
