Match report by Stewart Bloor

Looking to get back on track in the JD Cymru Premier following last week’s defeat at home to Newtown AFC, this evening at Maes Tegid the 1-1 draw meant that the points were shared after ninety-eight minutes of football.

The two main changes in the starting line-up for the reigning champions, saw Blaine Hudson on the bench, while Tom Holland made his second debut.

We didn’t have to wait long for the first goal, as a 5th minute free-kick from the Bala left, saw Henry Jones’ ball in headed into his own net by Aeron Edwards. 1-0

By the time we hit the quarter of an hour mark, although the visitors dominated possession, with a figure of 72%, the Lakesiders held their own.

It was more of the same as we passed the one-third stage of the game, with The New Saints seeing more of the ball, but without testing Josh Tibbetts in the Bala goal.

In the 33rd minute, a Jamie Mullan cross from the right, found Adrian Cieslewicz, but the winger’s shot was well over.

Five minutes later, Aeron Edwards almost found the net again. This time his header was at the right end, but unfortunately for TNS, the connection with the ball from the corner was just over the bar.

Scott Ruscoe’s side started the second period where they left off in the first, having the best of the possession and taking the game to the Lakesiders.

In the 59th minute, The New Saints were handed a lifeline, when a Chris Marriott attempt on goal resulted in a handball in the box. Stepping up to the mark, Ryan Brobbel beat the impressive Tibbetts to level the score. 1-1

Although Bala Town continued with their energetic display, the goal spurred the visitors on, as they looked to secure all three points.

In the 65th minute a great ball in from Jamie Mullan was met by Dean Ebbe, only for his header to come off the post. From close range, Brobbel’s rebound shot was high and over.

With seven minutes to go, a driving shot from range forced Tibbetts into a good save. Likewise, almost immediately at the other end, Paul Harrison kept The New Saints in the game with a diving stop to his left.

With four added minutes, a strike from outside the box from Mullan was over, as the visitors pushed for the winner. However, it wasn’t to be, and come the final whistle, the game ended all-square.
