With Connah’s Quay Nomads’ victory on Saturday afternoon against Carmarthen Town toppling The New Saints at the top of the JD Welsh Premier League, there was added incentive for Scott Ruscoe’s side as they travelled to the capital to take on Cardiff Metropolitan University FC.

Just seconds on the clock, Brobbel found Ebbe inside the box as the Irish striker’s flick-on hit the post.

Both sides looked to establish an early hold on the game but as we approached the quarter of an hour stage, neither keeper had been seriously tested.

In fact, it was the 19th minute when a ball from Spender found Redmond, who in turn fed Ebbe in the box. Unfortunately for the lead-man, his blocked shot was comfortably collected by Mansion in The Archers’ goal.

The deadlock was broken six minutes later when Evans crossed from the Cardiff left, finding Thomas who flicked the ball past Harrison from close-range.

Cardiff Met had a penalty appeal rejected, as Thomas went down in The Saints’ area.

In the second minute of added time, turning in the box, Brobbel’s chip hit the bar as TNS looked to pull a goal back going into the break.

However, it was Snaith’s second that extended Cardiff Met’s lead in the 53rd minute. Breaking down a TNS attack, the break saw a ball played in from the left, with the number 24 slotting past Harrison.

A deflected shot from substitute Byrne in the 67th minute saw TNS win a corner that came to nothing, as The Students cleared their lines.

However, it was all over bar the final whistle, when Baker’s shot gave the university-based side an impressive lead.
