Cardiff Metropolitan University FC and The New Saints, separated by just goal difference prior to play, remained that way come the final whistle as a goalless draw was played out at the Cyncoed Campus in the capital.
From our vantage point in the main building opposite the TV gantry, TNS began the game kicking from right to left.
With four minutes on the clock, Edwards was brought down on the edge of the box, with the resultant free-kick from Mullan eventually being cleared off the line.
Nine minutes later, there were appeals for a Cardiff penalty, however a corner was all the home side got out of it.
With both sides looking lively, it was TNS who came closest, in the seventeenth minute, as Cieslewicz hit the post.
As we edged toward the halfway stage in the first half, great work from Routledge, as he weaved his way through the defence, resulted in a free-kick. An overhead kick from Edwards going wide, brought the move to an end.
Great work between Spender and Edwards resulted in Fletcher shooting just over as TNS continued to push forward.
Lunging in on 29 minutes, Routledge received a yellow card, as Baker threatened to burst through for the Archers.
On 38 minutes the home side went agonisingly close, as neither could break the deadlock, with the teams going into the break 0-0.
The high tempo continued into the second period as both sides looked to take the game to each other.
A great block from a close-range effort on 57 minutes denied Wes Fletcher, as TNS continued to create the better chances in front of goal.
With 18 minutes to go, Mullan whipped a cross into the box but no-one was there to connect. This was followed by Fletcher bursting into the box only for his shot to go just wide.
With four minutes to go, a fantastic save to his right by Paul Harrison denied the home side from snatching a late win.
Three additional minutes saw TNS win a very late free-kick on the edge of the box. Taken by substitute, Seargeant, it went just over.
It proved to be the final act of the game as the referee blew the whistle to bring the game to an end.
Substitutions: Brobbel (for Edwards) 66, Draper (for Fletcher) 75, Seargeant (for Cieslewicz) 79
Yellow cards: Routledge (foul) 29
