Match Report

Substitutions: Hmami for Brobbel (46), Draper for Redmond (62)

The New Saints booked their place in the semi-final of the Nathaniel MG Cup with a comfortable 5-0 victory over Llandudno.

Two goals from Danny Redmond, along with individual strikes from Ben Clark, Chris Seargeant and Josh Hmami ensured that Scott Ruscoe’s side made safe passage into tomorrow evening’s draw.

It was the home side who could’ve found themselves in front inside the first minute. Toby Jones went close with an effort fired just wide of the right post, which would’ve given Llandudno a dream start to the game.

Iwan Williams’ side continued to push for the opener. George Harry spun with the ball in the box, before firing a snapshot, which deflected just wide of Connor Roberts’ goal.

The score was eventually broken after 26 minutes. Danny Redmond was the beneficiary of a good cross from Kurtis Byrne, meeting the ball in the middle of the box with his head, and giving his side the go-ahead goal.

It was following the TNS goal that Llandudno heads began to drop. A quiet period followed in the next 10 minutes before the Saints grabbed their second goal and it was Redmond again who was on hand.

Dean Ebbe did well to pick out the number 10 in space through a crowded group of players, and Redmond made no mistake in slotting the ball past the goalkeeper. 2-0.

Not to be outdone by his central midfield partner, Ben Clark decided to get in on the act. It was Ebbe again who provided the assist, picking out Clark in the centre of the penalty area, who showed great composure to finish the shot first time and make the score 3-0 at the interval.

Making just the one change at the break, seeing Josh Hmami replace Ryan Brobbel, The Saints began the second-half the same way they ended the first.

Just four minutes after the kick-off, Chris Seargeant picked out Simon Spender on the edge of the box with a fantastic through ball. Spender, playing in the unfamiliar role of left-back, fed the ball back to Seargeant for the midfielder to finish an effort first time to the bottom right of the goalkeeper. 4-0.

Seargeant continued to look lively as the half progressed. After being teed up by Kurtis Byrne, the number seven brought a good save from the goalkeeper, with a driven effort after 59 minutes.

It was substitute Josh Hmami who rounded off the scoring with 79 minutes gone. He met a corner from the right, heading the ball towards the back of the net, and despite protests that it failed to cross the line from the home players, the referee pointed towards the centre circle. 5-0.

The New Saints now await their fate tomorrow evening’s open semi-final draw, where Scott Ruscoe’s side could come up against any one of Connah’s Quay Nomads, Cardiff Metropolitan University or Cambrian and Clydach as they look to lift the trophy for the fifth consecutive season.
