A Five Star Performance In The Nathaniel MG Cup – Prestatyn Town FC 0-5 The New Saints FC

Match Report

Goals: Nembhard (4), Hmami (12, 74), Draper (49), Byrne (77)

Substitutions: Spender for Marriott (46), Ebbe for Draper (64), Redmond for Seargeant (75)

Attendance: 115

Looking to put Sunday’s defeat behind them, Scott Ruscoe’s side got off to a perfect start when Seargeant’s free-kick from the left was met by a powerful Nembhard header.

With less than four minutes on the clock, the current holders of the Nathaniel MG Trophy deserved the early lead as they dominated from the off. 0-1

The lead was doubled in the 12th minute, when good work from Brobbel found Hmami in the box who put it past Williams in the Seasiders’ goal. 0-2

As we hit the halfway stage in the first period, TNS continued to take the game to the home side. Roberts, in for Harrison, remained mostly a spectator as the game was played predominantly in the Prestatyn half.

In the 32nd minute, a powerful volley from Byrne was saved by Williams, as the lively Irishman looked to get his name on the score sheet.

Draper almost did three minutes later, when he met a low ball from the right that he flicked just wide of Williams’ post.

Going into the break with a comfortable lead and totally dominating the play, it was a very different TNS than the one that we saw at Cyncoed Campus over the weekend.

Half-time: Prestatyn Town 0 The New Saints 2

As the first half began with a goal in the fourth minute, likewise the second period, as Greg Draper brilliantly controlled the ball in the area to poke it past the keeper. 0-3

With The New Saints continuing to look comfortable as the game progressed, Williams remained the busier of the two goalkeepers.

Hmami got his second of the game in the 74th minute as the dominance paid off, heading in from close range. 0-4

Three minutes later, the Irishmen combined for TNS’ fifth as Byrne prodded home Ebbe’s initial shot that was saved by Williams. 0-5

Although we had witnessed plenty of goals thus far, we had to wait until the 82nd minute for the first corner of the game, which fell to the visitors.

In the dying minutes, Hmami had two bites of the cherry to grab his first TNS hat-trick from close range, but failed to get the ball in the net.

With the quarter-finals draw having already been made this evening, The New Saints will travel to Llandudno. Exact date to be confirmed, either October 30th  or 31st.
