The New Saints got back to winning ways in superb fashion, as they defeated Airbus UK Broughton 6-2 in a high scoring affair at Park Hall.

Four goals from Greg Draper, plus strikes from Dean Ebbe and Chris Marriott, ensured that Scott Ruscoe’s side picked up a much needed three points, as they reduced the deficit at the top of the JD Cymru Premier to just four points.

It took just 13 minutes for TheSaints to open the scoring, when a good ball sent in from the right by Billy Whitehouse found Dean Ebbe on the edge of the six-yard-box. The number seven made no mistake, as he beat Hall with a header to give his team a 1-0 lead.

And just three minutes later, Ebbe could’ve doubled his tally. It was superb save from Hall, though as he keep his side in the game.

The Airbus goalkeeper could do nothing to prevent Greg Draper from getting in on the act however, with the New Zealand international making the score 2-0 in the 18th minute.

After picking up the ball on the edge of the box, Draper tried his luck, and the ball traveled through a crowded penalty box, before hitting the post and deflecting in. 2-0.

The Saints’ number nine continued to cause problems for the visitors, and gave his side further breathing space in the 33rd minute, as he made the score 3-0 from the penalty spot.

And just two minutes before the half-time whistle, it was that man Draper celebrating a hat-trick. After getting through 1v1 against the goalkeeper, he showed great composure to beat the ‘keeper with a deft finish, and effectively seal the three points for his side. 4-0.

Ruscoe’s side started the second-half in the same manner as they’d ended the first, and could’ve increased their tally further in the 50th minute. It was Billy Whitehouse who worked the ball into the penalty area, but he failed to keep his effort down, and it went comfortably over the crossbar.

With an hour on the clock though, TNS did find that fifth goal they were searching for. And not content with the three goals he’d already scored, it was Draper involved again, as he met Kurtis Byrne’s cross inside the six-yard-box to head home a fourth. 5-0.

But down the other end, there was more defensive disappointment for The Saints as they failed to keep a clean sheet for an 11th consecutive game. It was George Peers who beat the offside trap, before rolling the ball beneath Harrison, to give his side a consolation goal in the 74th minute.

However, just five minutes later, The Saints were celebrating once more, when Chris Marriott scored his first goal of the season to make it 6-1. After Byrne had hit the crossbar with an initial effort, the number three was in the right place to tap home the rebound, as he restored his side’s five goal lead.

That wasn’t the end of the afternoon’s scoring though, as there was still time for Airbus to grab another goal back. A stumble from Ryan Harrington allowed Peers to race through on goal, and the visitor’s number 15 made no mistake, with a composed finish past Harrison.
