The New Saints bounced back from last weekend’s defeat in the perfect way, with a 6-0 victory against Carmarthen Town at Park Hall this afternoon.

There were five different goal scorers, as all of Danny Redmond, Jamie Mullan, Dean Ebbe, Greg Draper and Adrian Cieslewicz got themselves on the scoresheet.

The win temporarily moves The Saints up to second place in the JD Welsh Premier League table, three points behind leaders Connah’s Quay Nomads.

Danny Redmond opened the scoring for TNS with 23 minutes gone. A great cross from the right was played into the box, and the former Hamilton man was on hand on the penalty spot to power a strong header past Lee Idzi and into the back of the net.

It got worse for Carmarthen nine minutes later. This time it was Jamie Mullan, who showed great skill to round the outrushing Idzi, giving him an opportunity to loft the ball into an empty net. He made no mistake to make it 2-0 to TNS.

Just as it seemed like Carmarthen would make it to half-time, Dean Ebbe had a different idea. He collected the ball on the left-hand side of the penalty box, spotted Idzi off his line, before chipping the ball over the Carmarthen goalkeeper.

It wasn’t long after the interval before business resumed. Coming on as a substitute at the break, Greg Draper made the score a convincing 4-0 to TNS with 53 minutes played.

The New Zealand international met a Chris Marriott cross on the edge of the six yard box and showed great composure to convert the chance from close range.

The last of the five goal scorers was Adrian Cieslewicz. With 70 minutes played, a cross from the right-hand side was the perfect height for the Polish midfielder to head into the net and add TNS’ fifth of the afternoon.

An empathic victory for Scott Ruscoe’s side was completed on 78 minutes. Substitute Draper was on hand again, another header too, to complete the rout. Great work from Jamie Mullan down the right, who was a menace to the Carmarthen defence all afternoon, gave Draper an opportunity he couldn’t miss. 6-0.

Next up for The New Saints is a visit to newly promoted Caernarfon Town on Friday evening, kickoff 7.45pm.
