It’s hard to believe that we’re already almost halfway through January, with the Christmas and New Year festivities already consigned to the memory banks – in the Foundation we are now planning for our February half term holiday activities, and my job through January is negotiating with our various partners to try and secure the funding support needed to continue this provision in 2019.
Last year, our holiday programme attracted well over 2,000 attendances by children and young people across the north-west Shropshire and mid Powys areas, and we would really like to extend this further in 2019.
At the end of last year, we heard that we were being supported by the Football Foundation to develop and grow the Football Club’s junior supporter base. Look out for updates on our website, and from our Fan Engagement Officer, Wayne Greenshields, as this project starts to get off the ground in the next few months. We have some really exciting plans for our junior supporters, and for their match day experiences.
The rest of our programme continues apace – we have new youth cafes now running on Monday evenings in Gobowen and Weston Rhyn; a new walking football initiative about to ‘kick off’ in Weston Rhyn; a number of new Community Postural Stability Instruction sessions for older residents starting in Oswestry and St Martins (thanks to support from STAR Housing); as well as our usual in and after school provision.
Did you know that our Wildcats girls football sessions are running again every Friday evening at The Venue? Girls aged 4 – 11 are welcome to join the sessions which run from 4.30 – 5.30pm. These are in addition to our regular Fun Football (Development Centre) sessions which run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturday mornings. For more information about any of these please contact email@example.com
And, of course, we continue to offer the fantastic Friday night ‘All In’ clubs for young people with additional needs – please get in touch with Shelly.firstname.lastname@example.org to find out more about the All In sessions – they are really enjoyed by all those attending, and parents/carers if they wish have the opportunity for a short break from their caring responsibilities to do essential tasks or just have some ‘me’ time.
