TNS FC Foundation Update With Gill Jones

As we come to the end of what has been our busiest summer yet, I just want to place on record my thanks to the fantastic team of Foundation holiday activity coaches, who have worked tirelessly to offer children and young people a wide variety of multi-sport sessions and holiday clubs throughout the summer holidays, writes Gill Jones.

This summer was the first time we have run a daily summer holiday club at The Flash Leisure Centre in Welshpool, and over the past week we have also offered a summer holiday club at The Venue in partnership with the League of Friends to the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital – where children of hospital staff have enjoyed all the facilities and activities on offer here, as well as finding out a bit more about what the work of their parents at the hospital.  We very much hope to be able to continue both of these offers in the future.

We have also recently welcomed our new Community Football Co-Ordinator, Tom Rowlands, who joins the team with a remit to grow significantly our community football offer.  Mini Saints, Junior Saints and Wildcats all kick off again next week – we look forward to welcoming back all previous participants – please also tell your friends about these fun football sessions.

We will also at the end of the month be offering a free fun football session on a Friday evening for four weeks as part of the McDonalds Fun Football Programme promotion.  All of these sessions are of course led by qualified coaches, and will help your child develop their football skills whilst having lots of fun.

Tom will be launching over the next few weeks an ‘All Ability’ Football session for adults – this is part of funding support received by the Foundation from the Football Foundation Grow the Game Programme, which has also provided some support to the Ladies section to establish an Under 18s Development Team.  Watch out on our social media pages for further information.

We also have some news on our Junior Fanzone.  Have your children discovered our Junior Fanzone web pages – which offer various downloadable resources, as well as on-line wordsearches, games and puzzles.  Here is the link to have a go, and find out more:  https://www.tnsfc.co.uk/fanzone/

And so we move in to our Autumn term schools programme – we are delighted again to be working with a number of partner schools in the area – offering in school and after school provision.  If you would like to find out more about our wide schools programme please contact john.rhodes@tnsfc.co.uk.

Alongside this we of course continue to offer our community programmes for older people, children and young people with additional needs, etc.  We were delighted this week to receive a thank you from the parent of one of the children who attends a number of our sessions,  including the All In club on a Friday evening.  To close, I have included an extract from the letter which captures the difference we aim to make to children and families through our activity provision:

“My son has changed almost beyond recognition in many ways. He’s less aggressive than he was, he can shrug off things that don’t matter and knows what to do with things that upset him.

The support of everyone running the sessions is amazing …… – we can’t thank you all enough…it’s not an exaggeration to say I don’t know where we’d be without you all!”
