Nine Points Clear At The Top
Following Connah’s Quay Nomads’ draw with Barry Town United earlier in the day, the conclusion of MD31 sees The New Saints FC sitting pretty at the top of the table.
From a very tight table just a few weeks ago, it’s looking very good indeed going into the final game. As in life itself, it’s not a sprint but a marathon.
Greg Draper, Goal Machine
The goal that the New Zealand international scored was his 35th of the season in all competitions for The New Saints. What can you say, other than Greg Draper, goal machine.
Three Top Strikers
Although Greg’s been in the spotlight of course, courtesy of his goals, nevertheless we have two other quality forwards at the club. Each of them bring something different to the table as well. Whenever there’s a substitution, you know that it’s not like-for-like but there will be variety in terms of contribution.
Greg Draper, Dean Ebbe and Kurtis Byrne all featured in the game and as well as Greg’s goal, Kurtis scored a brace.
How’s The Selection Headache, Scott Ruscoe?
You wouldn’t want to be Scott deciding which striker starts, that’s a headache in itself before you even get to the other positions. We saw six changes in the starting line-up against Caernarfon Town, and while it’s true to say that there was a slight diluting at times of the usual fluidity – which is inevitable with 60% of the outfield being changed – nevertheless it was business as usual, as once again we showed what great depth we have in the squad.
Most managers think about who to pick in their starting line-up, Scott has an added dilemma. His concern is also very much who do you leave out. Every one has a more than creditable claim to be out on the pitch from the start.
Bored Of Winning?
The lifting of the trophy, live on S4C, was the eighth time in as many seasons. Groundhog day but all positive. People sometimes ask if we ever get bored of winning. What do you think!
