The result was good but what about the performance?
In our post-match interview with head coach, Craig Harrison, that was the question that we put to him.
Although not quite as dramatic as a game of two halves, nevertheless he wasn’t happy with the performance in the first period.
We often ask what did he say to the players during the break and that was the gist.
They took it on board though and Craig was much happier with the second forty-five.
Declan McManus
The striker made it three goals from as many games, when he scored from the spot, just before the one-third stage of the encounter in south Wales.
Following a handball in the area, the referee pointed to the spot and McManus stepped forward.
Slotting it confidently past the ‘keeper and into the net, it’s good to see Declan back on form, as far as goals are concerned.
There is no doubt about it, his returns have been a key part of the current run that the team is on.
Ryan Brobbel
Another player that is synonymous with the words ‘goals’ is Ryan Brobbel.
His superb strike in the second-half gave the visitors a comfortable lead and one that remained until the final whistle.
Setting himself up in the penalty area, his shot came off the far post as, once again, he demonstrated what he is capable of.
Whether free-kicks or live ball situations, whenever Brobz is within striking distance, your pulse always races.
Chris Marriott
As captain, it’s invariably down to Chris Marriott for a post-match interview when the team loses.
That’s where the role, seniority and experience comes into play.
It was nice to talk to our left-back after the game under different circumstances though, even though he’s just as professional and level-headed after a defeat as he is when the side wins.
A victory, clean sheet, and to top it off on a personal level, Mazza was given man of the match.
The statistics look good
The win against Pontypridd United means that The New Saints continues to lead the way at the top of the JD Cymru Premier.
It’s always about us, of course, but nevertheless results elsewhere means that there is a one-point lead over Cardiff Metropolitan University FC in second as well as being four points ahead of the quartet that have nine to the name.
The only unbeaten side in the league, just one goal conceded in five and a goal difference of six, the statistics look good indeed.
Yes, they are just figures, but they do tell a story of what has happened so far on the pitch this season.
