The impressive JD Welsh Cup run continues

The last time The New Saints tasted defeat in the JD Welsh Cup was on March 6, 2018. The 7-0 victory against Newtown AFC means ensures that the impressive run continues.

The round four win puts Craig Harrison’s side in the draw tomorrow (Monday, January 16), when we will know who our quarter-final opponent will be.

 

You can’t keep a good man down

Although he was out injured for a spell at the end of 2022, Declan McManus has returned in style.

His brace yesterday means that he has scored eight goals in four games, and when you consider that in the first two matches he only came on as a second-half substitute, that makes the statistics even more stunning.

 

Another goalscorer on fire

Ben Clark has also been finding the net on a regular basis lately. Scoring twice in the victory against Newtown AFC, Ben has nine goals in his last six games.

During that period he failed to score in only one fixture and that was against Caernarfon Town, where he was once on loan.

 

Connor Roberts

With all the goals going in lately, there is naturally lots of focus on that end of the pitch. Let’s not forget the sterling work done at the other though.

When club legend, Paul Harrison, retired at the end of last season, it was always going to be a challenge for whoever stepped up to replace him.

It’s true to say though, that Connor Roberts has embraced the opportunity firmly, and very quickly he established himself as the club’s number one.

Yesterday was another clean sheet for Connor.

 

Strength in depth

Luke Simpson, Josh Daniels, Adrian Cieslewicz, Dan Williams and Leo Smith.

Sounds like a five-a-side dream team, doesn’t it? That was the bench against the Robins and what it shows is the real depth that exists within the current squad.

With a thirteen-points lead at the top, it’s looking good for The New Saints as we enter the business end of the season.
