It’s been a long season for The New Saints but it does come to an end this coming Sunday (April 30), when we play Bala Town in the JD Welsh Cup final.
The game brings back memories of the 2017 final, which was also played at Nantporth, Bangor. On that occasion, in their first ever victory against TNS – a run that had extended to twenty-nine encounters – it was Bala who were 2-1 winners.
Although club legend, Greg Draper, opened the scoring in the second-half, the Lakesiders hit back as they lifted the trophy for the first time in their history.
Going into Sunday’s final, as far as results this season between the sides are concerned, Craig Harrison’s team sits firmly in the driving seat.
Having gone head-to-head on four occasions in the JD Cymru Premier, The New Saints has a 100% record, with victories of 5-0, 3-0, 2-1 and 2-0.
The most recent win was the 2-0 at Maes Tegid, just a couple of weeks ago, on April 14. Two second-half goals in the space of three minutes from Declan McManus and Ryan Brobbel were enough to put the game beyond the reach of Bala Town.
This coming Sunday, Colin Caton’s team will be wearing all-red and the goalkeepers will be in all-burgundy.
The holders of the trophy will be in green and white hooped shirts, green shorts and socks. The TNS ‘keepers will be in blue and yellow shirts, blue shorts and black socks.
