The New Saints Women are delighted to announce the signing of Birmingham City U21s player, Sophie Phillips, who joins the club ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

The 19-year-old, who has joined The New Saints on semi-professional terms, leaves Birmingham City after four seasons, spending the seven years prior to that with West Bromwich Albion.

During her time with the Blues, Phillips made the bench for the then Women’s Super League side on numerous occasions, including one call-up at the age of 16. Phillips has also enjoyed success at international level, having played for Wales throughout the youth ages, including a call-up to the U19s squad when she was just 17 years old.

She now moves to Park Hall where she’ll join the other new additions ahead of what promises to be an enthralling season ahead. 

Speaking on the signing, Shauna Duffy, Head Coach at The New Saints FC, said:

“Sophie is someone I’m really excited to work with ahead of the upcoming season. She possesses a great attitude and in a short space of time, has already shown how versatile she can be, so she’s someone I’m delighted to have on board.

“Despite her age, she has experience at the top of the game, playing and training in elite environments alongside professional athletes, so we are looking forward to her offloading that experience onto the team.

“She’s going to fit right in here at Park Hall and we’re hoping she can help bring success ahead of what’s set to be a huge season for the club.”

New signing, Sophie Phillips, said:

“I’m really excited to have joined The New Saints. There’s a clear project here and it’s something I really want to be a part of.

“The girls have been great with me so far and we’re looking to push each other as far as possible next season.”
