The New Saints Women booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Bute Energy Welsh Cup following a convincing 7-0 victory over Cambrian United.

Six different names were on the scoresheet at the M&P Group 3G on what proved to be a comfortable afternoon for Mikey Harris’ side.

There was a personal landmark in the second half too, as Yasmin Evans came off the bench to score her first goal since returning from an ACL injury.

It was a composed start from the visitors, with the Genero Adran Premier side controlling possession in the early stages.

With 14 minutes on the clock, Mikey Harris’ side were rewarded for that early pressure as they opened the scoring courtesy of Olivia Buckland.

The number 23 was in the right place at the right time to sweep home a cross from Maris Francis-Jones inside the six-yard box and score her first goal of the season.

Ten minutes later, the Saints were celebrating again, as Tiggy Webb capitalised on a scramble inside the Cambrian penalty area to stab home her fifth goal in two Bute Energy Welsh Cup fixtures.

Mikey Harris’ side were continuing to dominate, and with 28 minutes played, Maris Francis-Jones sent a header past Alisha Young to make it 3-0 after a superb cross from Grace Dunkerley.

It was four minutes before the interval when Francis-Jones raced onto a defence-splitting forward pass from Caitlin Chapman and poked the ball past the goalkeeper to send her side into the break with a commanding advantage.

Picking up where they left off in the second-half, Chapman herself got on the scoresheet in the 50th minute with a powerful strike from distance, before Webb sent a header against the crossbar 15 minutes later.

Twelve minutes from time, substitute Yasmin Evans beat the goalkeeper with a long-range effort of her own – her first goal in a TNS shirt after returning in recent weeks following a lengthy ACL recovery.

In the 85th minute, substitute goalkeeper Sophie Dando pulled off a superb one-handed save to keep out a free-kick, but Kay Baker made it 7-0 with the last kick of the game, firing home yet another strike from distance.

It was a professional display from the higher-ranked Saints, who secured their place in the quarter-finals of the competition for a third consecutive season.

After the Christmas break, it’s a trip back to South Wales for Harris’ side as they take on Swansea City at the Swansea.com Stadium on Sunday, January 4th. Kick-off is scheduled for 2pm.
